Apply within!The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center (UT Southwestern) is seeking a distinguished academic neurologist to serve as the next Chair of the Department of Neurology & Neurotherapeutics. We seek an M.D. candidate with outstanding academic experience who is prepared to use substantial resources to recruit and build a department of international prominence.

The growth and development of the department will be supported by the Peter O’Donnell Jr. Brain Institute, a multi-disciplinary, campus-wide program dedicated to the translation of basic research to effectively diagnose, treat and prevent brain diseases. The institute is backed by a $1B fundraising campaign. The Department of Neurology & Neurotherapeutics will play a critical role in this effort to link basic and clinical neuroscience.

UT Southwestern’s Department of Neurology boasts a large faculty (~75) organized into clinical divisions spanning all sub-specialties, a long-standing residency program with 42 residents, and a strong leadership team supporting the management of the clinical enterprise.  The organization is seeking a creative and dynamic leader, who will be empowered to build substantive clinical and translational research programs.

UT Southwestern has a proud history of supporting basic and translational research that has changed the world, counting among its faculty 6 Nobel laureates, 23 members of the National Academy of Sciences, 19 members of the National Academy of Medicine, and 14 Howard Hughes Medical Institute investigators.  The UTSW Medical Center is ranked in the top 35 nationally in NIH funding.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • D. or equivalent degree with ABPN certification is required.
  • Eligibility for medical licensure in Texas.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience including administrative experience and skills.
  • Qualifications to fulfill the UT Southwestern criteria for a senior level faculty appointment.
  • A nationally distinguished record as an academician, clinician, leader, and educator.
  • Proven background in faculty recruitment, mentoring, and development.
