Inova Mount Vernon Hospital is a 237-bed hospital that offers patients convenience and state-of-the-art care in a community environment. Supplementing its comprehensive acute care and emergency department services, Inova Mount Vernon Hospital is home to the nationally recognized Inova Joint Replacement Center and the Inova Rehabilitation Center. Both are ranked among the top orthopedic and rehabilitation programs in the country. It also is the administrative and clinical home for the Inova Wound Healing Center, the region’s largest and most experienced. Inova Mount Vernon Hospital also administers Inova HealthPlex – Lorton, a full-service healthcare facility that combines the latest technology with a comprehensive array of services, including 24-hour emergency department, radiology and laboratory services. The hospital recently opened the Veatch Family Emergency Department. This state-of-the-art facility features 35 all-private treatment rooms, new “fast track” rooms to treat less serious injuries, improved ambulance access, new cardiac emergency rooms and a specialized pediatric treatment area among its many amenities.

Position Overview

Inova Health System is seeking a Medical Director of Psychiatry for Inova Mount Vernon Hospital. Inova’s extensive continuum of care includes an urgent psychiatric and addiction assessment center (IPAC), inpatient psychiatry, inpatient detoxification, partial hospitalization programs (PHP), intensive outpatient programs (IOP), outpatient psychiatric appointments and outpatient counseling services.  This leader will be responsible for program growth and development, as well as creating and clearly communicating a vision for providing best-in-class services. S/he will be expected to fully engage with key stakeholders, including current medical staff, administration, interdisciplinary teams and external partners.

The Mount Vernon facility is comprised of 30 inpatient beds and functions as a general psychiatry unit. Many of the patients are being treated for acute schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and depression, as well as co-morbidity of addiction and psycho-social stressors.  Additionally, Inova Mount Vernon Hospital offers behavioral health services through the Inova Behavioral Health Outpatient Center, a non-profit rehabilitation center that specializes in the treatment of mental health issues, substance abuse, opioid addiction and other healthcare needs. The center also offers medication management and counseling services, as well as individual psychotherapy.


  • MD or DO and active American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology Certification.
  • Active medical license or ability to obtain permanent, unrestricted medical licensure in the state of Virginia.
  • 10-15 years of relevant clinical experience.
  • Demonstrated administrative experience.
  • Has a passion for clinical excellence, professional development and collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team.
