In January 2006, a small group of people gave up their jobs and salaries, implored policy makers, and devoted human and financial resources to create a program that would change the lives of young people through the power of higher education. Within four months, two school districts approved the program, a 501(c)3 status was awarded, and 36 students placed their hopes for a better future in College Bound. Since then, many other partners, businesses, and universities have recognized the impact and promise of College Bound by contributing ideas, time, gifts, and resources to bolster College Bound’s success. College Bound now operates at six sites (four high schools and two community-based locations) and serves nearly 500 students and their families in a seven-year wrap-around program. Additionally, through local high schools and community partner sites, College Bound provides 1,100 9th grade students and families with the information to plan, prepare, pay for, and pursue and successfully complete postsecondary education.
The Executive Director is a dynamic, visionary, and passionate leader who can steward the organization to the next level of growth and sustainability in an exciting and rapidly growing sector of non-profit services. Working closely with the Board, and with support and guidance from the transitioning founder, the Executive Director will take an active role in steering and implementing the long-range strategic plan, including translation of the plan into measurable goals, objectives, and outcomes. The Executive Director is responsible for holding the vision of the organization, and ensuring high quality execution of all programs. The Executive Director will meet with and cultivate major donors. S/he will work closely with Development and Communications Officers to ensure that communications, public relations, and branding reflect and build upon the image and reputation that College Bound has gained in the community. Management of all leadership staff, and engagement with “collective impact partners” and regional college access networks, is central to the role of the Executive Director.
