Director, Biomedical Informatics

Position Overview

The Director, Center for Biomedical Informatics will lead UK’s campus wide biomedical informatics program encompassing biomedical research and translational medicine across the University enterprise. The Director will be responsible for generating a strategic vision for biomedical informatics, establishing a nationally recognized research program, recruitment of appropriate faculty members, and developing educational programs in biomedical informatics. The Director will report to Vice President of Research, the Executive Vice President of UK HealthCare, and, as appropriate, to the Director of the Center for Clinical and Translational Science.  An academic appointment would be in a Department appropriate for The Director’s area of interest or specialty.

Qualifications

  • Outstanding record of research and achievement in biomedical informatics (public health informatics, clinical informatics, bioinformatics/genomics, or translational informatics), as evidenced by a funded research program as PI.
  • MD/DO or equivalent health professions degree with advanced training in informatics or related discipline is desirable. Ideally, advanced training includes a degree or fellowship. Candidates with a PhD in informatics or related discipline are also sought.
  • Evidence of appropriate research training and/or equivalent experience in biomedical informatics, with a research focus in public health informatics, clinical informatics, bioinformatics/genomics, or translational informatics. This training/experience should be of adequate type and duration to prepare the individual for development of an independent research program.
  • Leadership experience at the University level to include any or all of the following: director of unit/division/center/institute for biomedical informatics, development and organization of informatics infrastructure, significant committee experience related to development and leadership in biomedical informatics.
