Kaiser Permanente Sunnyside Medical Center is one of two hospitals in Kaiser Permanente’s Northwest region. It sits on a 55-acre comprehensive medical campus that also houses an urgent care center, ambulatory surgery center, and two large medical offices. The full-service, 300 bed hospital is recognized for its Neurology, Cardiac Care, Mental Health, Addiction Recovery, and Oncology services.
As a member of the senior leadership team, the Chief Nursing Executive (CNE) is a critical role providing strategic leadership for all nursing services across KP Sunnyside Medical Center, based in Kaiser Permanente’s Northwest Region (KPNW). He or she sets the standards for overall clinical quality, safety, and service and ensures compliance with regulatory standards. The CNE leads the establishment of professional practice standards to ensure that nurses are optimized for their role and partners with Human Resources to play a critical role in labor union strategy and negotiations. This leader promotes the clinical integration model and fosters Kaiser Permanente’s culture of exceptional commitment to taking preventive, proactive, and chronic care to a new level, resulting in better care, better health and more convenient access at an affordable cost. Responsibilities for the CNE include directly managing a budget of $140 million with significant influence over other budgets, and supervising a total of 982 FTEs, including 9 direct reports overseeing key hospital departments.
The Chief Nursing Executive reports to the Hospital Administrator/Chief Operating Officer. In addition to managing day-to-day nursing operations under the Hospital Administrator, the CNE has a dotted line relationship with the Regional Chief Nurse Executive, who has oversight of nursing in the KP Northwest Region.
- A Master’s degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a relevant field is required.
- Seven to 10 years of progressive clinical, management and leadership experience in a large, integrated complex care organization.
- RN license or the ability to be licensed in the state of Oregon.
- National certification in nursing administration or advanced nursing administration required within 1-3 years of assuming the position.
- Experience with electronic health records, preferably EPIC, is desired.
- Experience with a unionized workforce a plus.
