Grant Cooper, a healthcare executive search firm, is seeking a physician leader to serve as the Chief Medical Officer of BJC Medical Group in St. Louis, MO.BJC Medical Group employs 394 primary care and specialty physicians, 153 advanced practitioners, and 1,900 FTE employees. The practice has 108 sites and covers BJC’s primary and secondary market in the St. Louis metropolitan area, including communities in Illinois, as well as Columbia, Farmington and Sullivan, Missouri. All of the practice sites have qualified as Level 3 NCQA patient-centered medical homes. BJC Medical Group generates $159M in net revenue and provides services to approximately 350,000 patients annually.

Position Overview

Reporting to the BJC Medical Group President, the Chief Medical Officer is the physician administrator accountable for ensuring the quality and effectiveness of clinical care delivered to the approximately 350,000 patients that are seen by the BJC Medical Group each year. The position will oversee all medical directors, including the Executive Medical Director-Hospitalist Program, the Clinical Medical Director for Quality and Compliance, the ACO Medical Director and the Chief Medical Information Officer. The Chief Medical Officer also leads the Physician Leadership Council, sets the tone for physician governance in the organization.

The Chief Medical Officer will lead the BJC Medical Group accountable care and population health management strategy. The medical group is leading BJC Healthcare’s foray into accountable care, pay-for-value and population health management, with 42,000 lives under a Medicare Track 3 Shared Savings Plan, and another 30,000 lives under partial-risk Medicare Advantage, Missouri Exchange, and commercial contracts. To provide adequate access to patients covered under those contracts, the medical group also contracts with 207 private-practice physicians.

Qualifications

  • Physician executive leadership background directing clinical performance improvement and quality programs within a medical group, health plan, hospital, or health care system.
  • Dynamic knowledge of outcomes measurement, clinical quality, and utilization.
  • Proven ability to lead large scale change and prioritize the implementation of multiple projects over multiple years, across a complex, matrix organization.
  • Background operating in an accountable care or value-based reimbursement environment.
  • Strong acumen bringing sound data, innovative approaches and a spirit of partnership to the table to drive success.
  • Successful experience in electronic medical record implementation, optimization, training, and engagement.
  • Exemplary communication and presentation skills; MBA, MMM, MPH or other advanced degree preferred.
  • Attained board certification in a clinical field and a minimum of seven years as a practicing physician.
