Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) is an independent, nonprofit corporation that shares Vanderbilt University’s respected name and collaborates closely with the university through education and research. VUMC includes Vanderbilt University Hospital, Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt, Vanderbilt Psychiatric Hospital, Vanderbilt Stallworth Rehabilitation Hospital, The Vanderbilt Clinic, and Vanderbilt Health One Hundred Oaks. In the Department of Hearing and Speech Sciences (DHSS), Vanderbilt specialists diagnose and treat hearing, speech, language and cognitive problems that affect communication. Its team of more than 100 clinicians includes audiologists, speech-language pathologists, teachers of the deaf, occupational therapists, physical therapists and social workers offering every patient compassionate and personalized care. The DHSS is a teaching program that provides services in 5 on-campus and 6 off-campus clinic sites, in addition to 2 preschool programs.
The Associate Operating Officer (AOO) for the Department of Hearing and Speech Sciences provides general management for the operations of the Hearing and Speech Patient Care Center (PCC) by providing administrative oversight and leadership in a manner that supports the mission, credo, and vision of Vanderbilt University Medical Center. This leader will collaborate with VUMC and Department Leaders in the determination of functions and processes to achieve PCC goals while reporting to the Chief Operating Officer for Vanderbilt University Hospital and Clinics and the Chair of the Department of Hearing and Speech Sciences. The AOO will lead a variety of operationally focused initiatives to create and support exceptional patient access and service, faculty and staff satisfaction, clinical quality outcomes, growth and volume management, and financial performance with superior efficiency and productivity.
- Postgraduate degree in Health Care Administration, Public Health, Business Administration, Organization Development or the equivalent with at least ten years of leadership experience in the healthcare service sector is required.
- Will have served in a complex and matrix environment such as an academic medical center or large integrated health system. The system should have a strong physician component such as large multi-specialty medical group. Other experiences such as with physician practice management companies, managed care organizations or other closely related alternate site-type venues would be desirable.
- Proven change agent who understands systems engineering and the use of data analytics to drive operational, quality, and financial levers to positively affect results. Experienced in leading and implementing innovative quality, safety, and performance improvement initiates to achieve superior clinical quality and favorable financial outcomes with high satisfaction levels for patients and staff.
- Demonstrated success in working collaboratively with care providers, and executives, both inside and outside an organization.
