The University of Central Florida's College of Medicine seeks an academic leader to serve as the Associate Dean. Apply within!The University of Central Florida College of Medicine (COM) is seeking an Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs (ADCA). The ADCA reports directly to the Dean and Vice President for Health Affairs, Deborah German, M.D., and has responsibility for the clinical mission of the college. As part of the senior leadership team, the ADCA will work to advance all missions (clinical, research, education and community) to build a strong, dynamic and innovative organization with a culture of excellence, inclusion and collaboration.

UCF’s College of Medicine is located on the University’s Health Sciences Campus in the Lake Nona neighborhood of Orlando. The 50-acre campus is located on the eastern edge of Orlando, about 30 minutes from UCF’s main campus. The Medical City also currently serves as a home to UCF’s College of Medicine, Lake Nona Medical Center, Sanford Burnham Prebys Institute facility nearby (which houses the UCF Lake Nona Cancer Center),  Burnett Biomedical Sciences Building, Nemours Children’s Hospital, University of Florida Academic and Research Center, and the Orlando Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VA). In the future, the campus is slated to house the UCF’s College of Nursing allied health professions programs and a teaching hospital.

Position Overview

The ADCA will work with the vice president/dean and other leadership as directed on partnerships between UCF’s faculty practice and the emerging UCF Lake Nona Medical Center and the UCF Lake Nona Cancer Center, and with other area hospitals and health care systems and will work in partnership with the Associate Vice President for Administration, Finance, and Operations/CFO and the Sr. Associate Vice President for Health Affairs/ Chief Legal officer and clinical chairs to define the growth of the clinical enterprise with the goal of becoming financially self-sustaining and integrating all missions into the practice.

The responsibility for growing the clinical practice and clinical mission of the college is inextricably entwined with the research and education missions. This includes the development of translational research opportunities and developing the educational climate for undergraduate and graduate medical education. In addition, the ADCA will ensure that appropriate diversity and inclusion standards are met and are responsive to local community needs. The ADCA will work with critical programs, like the new UCF Department of Population Health Sciences, to grow Community Health outreach and service programs. The ADCA will participate collaboratively with other leaders in developing the UCF Academic Health Sciences Center. 


The successful candidate must have superior interpersonal skills and have demonstrated the ability to collaborate and partner within the university and medical community as well as the ability to unite groups to a common cause. The ADCA must be guided by a passion and commitment to caring for patients and have an active clinical practice, experience building and managing busy multi-specialty, multi-disciplinary practices, and deep understanding of real-world clinical practice environments. In particular, knowledge of the changing health care delivery and payment systems, embracing opportunities to be innovative and forward-looking with health care transformation, and experience with major insurance carriers, clinically integrated networks, and accountable care organizations are required. Specifically, candidates will be/have:

  • A board-certified physician 
  • A terminal degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate discipline and a demonstrated record of scholarship that merits a faculty appointment as a full professor of medicine or an associate professor who is eligible for the status of professor of medicine 
  • A current active clinical practice, experience building and managing busy practices; the candidate will be expected to continue part time practice 
  • Superior interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to collaborate and partner within the university and medical community as well as the ability to unite groups to a common cause
